Financial Controller

We are looking for a Financial Controller to work closely with the Directors to guide the commercial, professional and cultural objectives of the practice and help drive the next phase of growth for the business.


The Financial Controller will ensure the commercial, professional, and cultural
success of the practice through the strategy, planning, execution and
management of the following responsibilities. The Financial Controller will
collaborate closely with the Directors and will manage and be supported by the


Report to: Ben Keck, Director
Director reports: Accountant 


Managing Company Finances
- Leads the Finance Committee
- Prepares monthly finance report and chairs monthly finance meeting
- Manages cash flow budgeting
- Forecasts revenue and reports on budget v actual
- Manages invoicing
- Manages insurance policies
- Reviews payroll, accounts payable and BAS (managed by Accountant)
- Provides cost control and analysis.
- Identifies risk and advises how to mitigate
- Enhances existing finance systems and tools

Managing Project Finances
- Manages project management system BQE Core
- Manges monthly WIP reporting
- Manages the P&L for each project
- Manages resourcing meetings and reports
- Encourages projects leads to take ownership of P&L for their projects
- Assists project leads in preparing monthly reports
- Assists project leads in preparing variations
- Enhances existing project management systems

Developing Business
- Participates in the entrepreneurial activities of Fieldwork
- Manages OKR framework and quarterly reporting via Culture Amp
- Participates in the New Business Committee (NBC)
- Prepares tenders and fee proposals with NBC members
- Prepares client architect agreements with external lawyer

Managing Accounts
- Manages the Accountant
- Manages accounting using Xero
- Prepares financial reports (profit & loss, cash flow and balance sheets)
- Ensures accounts are reconciled and accurate.
- Manages audits (if applicable)
- Liaises with external accountant
- Enhances existing accounting systems

Managing Administration
- Ensures Fieldwork satisfies its compliance obligations
- Performs ad hoc administrative task

- Tertiary qualification in an accounting or business degree
- CA or CPA qualified with at least 5 years post qualification experience
- Experience within a professional services environment
- Experience operating as Senior Management Accountant, Finance
Manager and/or Financial Controller
- Expert experience level in Excel
- Advanced experience level in Xero, Word, Office, CRMs
